[Maximize|Optimize[ Your Safety With A GPS Device

It was the early 1970s and the Golan Heights had been in Israel’s possession for several years. Day trips were increasing in popularity, which was when my family chose to rent a car to see this appealing location. If only GPS technology had been available then!.

We got lost; very lost. Not long aftwards night began to set in, in addition to being low on gas, all eight of us, obviously Jewish, overpacked into a rental car, with no clear notion of where we were. Eventually we discovered a small Arab town, evidently part of Syria not too long ago. However if we were aware of its existence more than likely we would have reached for our pepper spray guns.

Fortunately, the people of the town were incredibly helpful, kind and concerned. Widely known, that wasn’t certainly the case in those days. The people opened up their one and only gas station in the area, filled us up with fuel, supplied us food, in addition tp extremely good direction. In other instances the situation could have turned out much worse. We were lucky. Nowadays no one needs to face that type of situation; as long as they have access to a GPS.

How Does a GPS Operate?

Global Positioning System satellites revolve overhead, beaming down signals to equipment on the ground such as a vehicle installed GPS receiver. The receivers are entirely inactive, as they cannot transmit. By recognizing which satellite is providing which signal, the unit triangulates its relative position. When mixed with the mapping software it can advise you with realistic accuracy, where you are positioned at any moment.

Employing a GPS While Traveling

If you are hesitant about getting a GPS and you like to take road trips regularly, there are several reasons why you should have one along, even if you don’t use it much.

First: You will inevitably end up in places you don’t know. That is kind of the point of going on a road trip. With a GPS you are certain to arrive at your destination, even at night, even if it involves odd turns, even if – well, you get the idea.

Second:  You don’t have to pull over, take out your maps, and reread them constantly. Your GPS should be able to provide commands out loud, which means you can keep your eyes on the road while driving. All that you need to do is enter the address of your destination and you’re set to go- if however the GPS voice bothers you, you can easilt turn it down until you get to where you need to go.

Thirdly: You will stop making any wrong turns consequently ending up in an area where you will instantly think to yourself – “why didn’t I buy a tazer?”.

Easy to install, helpful to have along, GPS devices have made travel safer and more accurate – and they just keep getting better.
